Workshop Details

Title: Risk assessment for shelter animals with behavioral disorders

Description:

We will take a look at risk assessment for shelter pets that exhibit behavioral disorders. Risk does not pertain only to safety but the risk of mental decline and poor welfare. We will address not just the pets exhibiting aggressive behavior but also pets exhibiting separation related behaviors, frustration related behaviors and those with fear and anxiety. We want to help shelter staff take an objective look at these pets and help them determine a pathway to move forward. This presentation specifically wants to help shelters that do not have a shelter behavior program or behavior staff to handle this population of pets.  We will review how the shelter can handle and manage these particular pets. We will also discuss other pathway options, such as transfer, foster or consider behavioral euthanasia.

This workshop will be recorded and available on-demand for virtual and full conference registrants following the conference.
