Title: Building a culture of retention: How shelter leaders and veterinarians can work together to solve the veterinary crisis in shelters

Description:

Shelters across the country are struggling to attract and retain veterinary medical teams, with ripple effects throughout the whole system of care. Unraveling the broader veterinary access to care crisis will take time but the good news is there are steps shelter leaders can take now to successfully recruit and retain medical team members. We will review the result of shelter-specific research on organizational factors, including culture and communication, that can make all the difference. We will hear from shelter leaders and vets that have made it work, and dive into practical and interactive exercises to practice key skills and design structures that will not only help keep medical team members on board, but can benefit the entire organization.
