Title: Main Stage: Welcome session with keynote speaker Dr. Kwane Stewart

Description:

In his keynote, Dr. Stewart will explore the important role each of us plays in keeping animals with their people. We all have a unique perspective on the world and our individual communities—seeing first-hand the impact a pet can have on one’s life and witnessing the lengths people will go to and the sacrifices they will make to take care of the animals in their lives. So when we encounter people dealing with hardships and obstacles, it is imperative to set aside pre-conceived notions and biases and instead choose to support and be of service in any ways that we can. If you’re brand new to animal welfare or have been in the field for decades, we all share the same goal- that through kindness and understanding, our work makes a difference in keeping pets and people together.

Before we hear from Dr. Stewart, we’ll kick things off some levity and laughter. Actor, comedian, and longtime HSUS advocate Hal Sparks will start things off with a stand-up comedy routine. Let’s shake off some of the stresses and fatigue of work and travel and get in the right mindset to take on a week of learning and networking by starting our week with a bit of laughter!
